When I’m looking to travel a bit further afield then a trip to Llandegla forest near Wrexham is normally at the top of my list. It offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, most notably mountain biking and cross country running, but there are also a number of waymarked walking trails, which really give you the chance to get away from it all. Whilst the car park can get quite busy, it doesn’t take long before you feel like you have the whole forest to yourself. If you have an energetic dog like I do then it is a fantastic opportunity to let them run off lead and burn some energy. No matter how long your walk is there is the huge bonus of the forest cafe at the end, which is dog friendly and apparently does the best bacon sandwich in Wales. Whilst this has not been independently verified, it’s hard to argue with the claim! It’s not just about the bacon sarnies though, they do a whole host of hot and cold treats which are all excellent. Bear in mind there is the small matter of a £5 fee to use the car park, though occasionally this does get waived if you are there to use the café, as the fee is generally aimed at the mountain bikers
I photographed Delwyn and her family at sunset, and the light was just gorgeous.
